Educational Records Bureau (ERB) CTP-4 Test
Sponsorship Protocols and Norms
Here are two reasons to consider using the CTP-4 standardized test published by ERB. These were written by Tom Garfield, superintendent of Logos School, Moscow, ID.
1. To what schools do you want to compare yourself?
As you know, standardized tests that "norm" their scores, do so by comparing a student's scores with those of a group. Do you want to set the bar low by comparing yourself to all schools in the USA? Or do you want to set the bar high by comparing yourselves to surburban public schools and independent private schools in the USA?
2. The content of the tests
The CTP-4 will probably more closely align with your curriculum. You will receive test scores in Verbal Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Writing Mechanics, Writing Concepts and Skills, and Quantitative Reasoning.
There won't be Science (with lots of evolution questions), Social Studies, or Study Skills as you are used to on the Stanford. This is a plus.
Our 8th grade students also enjoy taking the CTP-4 more than they do the Stanford. The reading selections are more challenging and they find logic skills integrated in the math questions.
If you haven't done so already, you should order three sample tests from ERB and look them over.
